How many pay periods are in 2027?
Biweekly: 26 for most people. 2027 starts on a Friday and has 53 Fridays, so one of the two every-other-Friday schedules has 27 paydays on paper: January 1, January 15, … December 31. But January 1 is New Year's Day, and most payrolls pay that check on Thursday, December 31, 2026. That makes 2026 the 27-paycheck year for those employees, and leaves 26 in 2027. The other Friday schedule (January 8, 22, …) has 26 paydays in both years.
Weekly: 52 (53 Fridays, minus January 1). Twice a month: 24. Monthly: 12. If your employer doesn't move holiday paydays, 2027 has 27 biweekly or 53 weekly paydays: set "On a weekend or bank holiday" to "Don't move it" to see it.
Why it matters if you're salaried: a yearly salary split over 26 paychecks gives a bigger check than the same salary split over 27. Some employers keep the usual check and pay a little more that year; others divide by 27. Ask payroll which one yours does.
Months with 3 paychecks
Paid every other week, you get two paychecks in most months and three in two months of the year (three months in some years). In 2027: April and October if your paydays are January 8, 22, …; July and December if they are January 15, 29, … (plus the January 1 check paid on December 31, 2026). In 2026: May and October, or January, July and December. Budgets built on two paychecks a month get the third as a spare one. Paid weekly, four or five months a year have 5 paydays.
What happens when payday falls on a holiday or weekend?
Direct deposits move through the banking system, which is closed on weekends and on Federal Reserve holidays, so most employers pay on the business day before. No federal law sets this; state pay-timing laws and your employer's policy do, and some employers pay on the next business day instead. Banks follow the Federal Reserve calendar: a holiday that falls on a Sunday is observed on Monday, but one that falls on a Saturday is not moved (banks are open the Friday before), even when federal offices close that Friday.
US bank holidays 2027
January 1 (New Year's Day), January 18 (Martin Luther King Jr. Day), February 15 (Washington's Birthday), May 31 (Memorial Day), July 5 (Independence Day, observed), September 6 (Labor Day), October 11 (Columbus Day), November 11 (Veterans Day), November 25 (Thanksgiving). Juneteenth (June 19) and Christmas (December 25) fall on Saturdays in 2027, so banks stay open the Friday before.
US bank holidays 2026
January 1, January 19, February 16, May 25, June 19, September 7, October 12, November 11, November 26 and December 25. July 4 is a Saturday, so banks are open Friday, July 3.
Biweekly vs twice a month
Biweekly means every two weeks on the same weekday: 26 paychecks a year, each pay period exactly 14 days, so overtime (counted per workweek) lines up with the pay period. Twice a month (semi-monthly) means fixed dates such as the 15th and the last day: 24 paychecks, pay periods of 13 to 16 days that start on different weekdays, and paydays that move whenever a date lands on a weekend.
FAQ
Which pay period does each paycheck cover?
For weekly and biweekly pay, set how many days before payday the period ends. A common setup is a Sunday-to-Saturday period paid the following Friday (6 days). For twice-a-month pay the periods here are the 1st to the 15th and the 16th to the end of the month, each paid on the next payday on or after it ends; for monthly pay, the calendar month. Your payroll may differ: your pay stub shows the real dates.
Can I print it?
Yes. "Print calendar" prints the 12-month calendar on one page and the list of paydays with their pay periods on the next. Choose "Save as PDF" in the print dialog to keep a file.
How do I add paydays to my phone's calendar?
"Add paydays to my calendar" downloads an .ics file with one all-day "Payday" event per payday. Open it on an iPhone or Mac to add it to Apple Calendar, or import it in Google Calendar (Settings → Import & export) or Outlook.
Does this include state holidays?
No. It uses the 11 US bank holidays of the Federal Reserve. If your employer also closes on a state holiday (such as Cesar Chavez Day or Patriots' Day), your payday may move on that day too.
